If we’re not out on our Phi Phi island boat tour on Sundays, then generally we are out and about doing odd jobs and trying to fit in some relaxation time. Typically, we get up late and go out for roti, this is a Thai style pancake that can be eaten with curry or sweet milk depending on which you prefer. Most Thai people like everything super-sweet so we only eat one, otherwise we overdose on the sugar!

After our delicious roti, we get our jobs done. This can be anything from cleaning the boat, doing some shopping, answering emails or updating photos on TripAdvisor. After our chores are done it’s time to relax. If the sun is shining, we head to the beach and chill there for a few hours, sunbathing and swimming.

Mangroves

Last week we decided to try something new. We were invited by friends to go paddle boarding, and as it sounded like a lot of fun we happily accepted. It did involve waking up at 5.30 as that was when the tide would be high, and we wanted to avoid being out in the midday sun. We made our own way to the meeting point where we met our guide, Ten.

Khun Ten has been registered as a tour guide for the past 5 years around Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Khao Sok and Khao Lak. His knowledge of Phuket waters is vast and he takes his customers to all the best places for paddle boarding adventures.

We had a demonstration on how to move from sitting position to standing on the board without falling off, and how to use the paddle properly. Then we were out on the water fending for ourselves.

Peace & Quiet

It didn’t take too long before we were standing upright, which is why this activity is called Stand-Up Paddle Boarding! We meandered through the mangroves in the north-east of the island, it was peaceful and the water very calm. It was so shallow in some places that you could even get off the board and have a quick swim about.

There was no-one else around at that time of morning to spoil our experience, and it was still cool enough that we didn’t have to worry about sunburn. Far away from Phuket tourist places the atmosphere was quiet and still.

The warm and clear waters here are the ideal setting to try out this sporting activity. You don’t have to be very fit or have any previous experience either, which makes it right for nearly everyone.

We had a great day out, and a big breakfast after as we were starving after all that exercise and sunshine. We’d definitely recommend it as an activity to enjoy here and are keen to book our next tour.

Our boat tours aboard La Moet  offer a unique and relaxed way to see the mangrove forests of Phuket.
